Tips for extending the battery life of your laptop
I read an excellent article on ‘How to charge your laptop’ on slate.com and I thought it would be great to share it.
The article takes its recommendations from Isidor Buchmann, the CEO of Cadex Electronics, a Canadian company that makes battery-testing equipment.
Here are the main snippets from the article.
1. “No matter what you do, your battery will become a useless piece of junk—one day it will reach a point where it can no longer be charged, and then you’ll have to recycle it. It will die if you use it often. It will die if you hardly ever use it. It will die if you charge it too much. It will die if you charge it too little.”
2. “keep your battery charged from 20 percent to 80 percent.”
3. “Try to keep your laptop as cool as possible.”
4. “The best technique here is to charge up your battery when the computer is turned off. When your laptop is turned on and plugged in, you should pull the battery out of your computer.”
5. Once in a while you should deplete your battery completely, then charging it up fully.”

ICT is not a single tool, but a whole toolbox—use the right combination of tools
I recently bought a new battery for my laptop and they told me the single thing that I could do to extend its life is to remove the battery when I am using electric power for my laptop.
There is actually no sure way of preserving the life of a battery. However depending on your laptop you can carry out certain tasks to prolong the life. The above mentioned steps and of course removing the battery whilst plugged into the mains is also another method. The new MacBook Pro comes with a battery that cannot be removed, hence what the Apple team has done is to ensure when the battery is fully charged, all power goes to other parts of the laptop and not the battery. Thank you for your feedback.
I will try this at home and if it doesn’t work I will tell you.
